New "Getting Organized" Column Addresses Union Elections

The current issue of CineMontage, the journal of the Motion Picture Editors Guild, includes a "Getting Organized" column addressing recent decisions and policies from the National Labor Relations Board. The decisions and policies in question, including a policy streamlining the union election process, buck a general trend towards a legal landscape increasingly hostile to workers' rights.

Local 700 National Organizer Rob Callahan writes:

Under pressure from management, democracy deferred effectively amounts to democracy denied. ... The adjustment to election policy isn't game-changing, but it does give bosses a little less opportunity to run down the clock ... [making] the NLRB elections process marginally more viable for organizing campaigns at post-production facilities or for company-wide (rather than show-specific) campaigns.

The full text of Callahan's column is available in the print edition of the Summer 2015 issue of CineMontage, or online on the Post, Proud website.
