Deluxe Employees to Vote on Unionization

Employees in Deluxe Media Creative Services' Culver City, California facility will vote on Wednesday, September 2, in an election conducted by the National Labor Relations Board. The question on the ballot will be whether to unionize the shop with the Editors Guild and IATSE.

The bargaining unit at Deluxe Culver City consists of about thirty post-production artists and technicians. The facility is located on the Sony Pictures lot in Stage 6, the former site of Sony Colorworks. Many of the Deluxe Culver City employees are former Colorworks staff who took a cut in pay and benefits when Sony transferred control of the formerly unionized facility to Deluxe earlier this year.

A No vote in Wednesday's balloting would allow Deluxe to continue to unilaterally set all of its employees' terms and conditions of employment. A Yes vote, conversely, compels the employer to sit down and negotiate in good faith with its employees as a group, through the union as their elected representative. Deluxe management has actively campaigned to discourage employees from unionizing, holding captive-audience meetings and one-on-one conversations to urge employees to vote No.

Monitor Editors Guild social media sites and the PostProud.org website for updates on the Deluxe Culver City campaign.
