Are these authorization cards confidential?

Authorization cards are confidential. Management will never see the cards, nor will they receive any lists of who signed. Under certain circumstances, the cards may be shown to a neutral third party for purposes of verifying that a majority of the employees have chosen union representation. In such a situation, the third party shares no information with the company except whether or not the union has achieved majority status.

Signatures on cards are confidential, but our union is strongest when we are open about our support of organizing. Our colleagues who organized with the WGAE in 2015 were often very vocal and public in their support of the union. Such displays of solidarity encouraged management to take their demands seriously, and they helped our colleagues secure an excellent contract.

In short, the union will respect the cards' confidentiality and won't reveal to Vice or other outsiders whether you signed. But it's best not to be bashful about your desire for a voice in the workplace. Take and show pride in our organizing efforts!
